At the center is the modern Mexican coat of arms, depicting an eagle grasping a serpent while perched on a cactus. Surrounding this central emblem is the official national name in Spanish, along with a decorative wreath. Along the outer edge of the design field, there are 10 historic versions of the same seal arranged in a circular pattern.
The reverse of the 2019 5 oz Silver Libertad Coin features Winged Victory as its primary design element. The background includes detailed imagery of two well-known mountain peaks, Iztaccihuatl and Popocatepetl, located near Mexico City. These volcanic mountains are tied to an enduring Aztec legend. Also included on this side are the Mexican Mint’s “OM” mint mark and inscriptions noting the coin’s weight, metal content, and purity. Winged Victory is shown in left-profile, raising a wreath above her head while holding broken chains in her opposite hand.
The Mexican Silver Libertad lineup expanded in 1991 with the introduction of four fractional coins: 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz. A later addition came in 1996, when the Mexican Mint introduced both the 2 oz coin and the 5 oz Silver Libertad, completing the modern range of weights available in the series.
