There’s a new series of silver rounds for sale and this collection comes from the Germania Mint. Known as The Allegories, the program takes inspiration from its very name as an allegory is a term that refers to a character often used as a personification of a place or event. Germania and Britannia debut in the series as a friendly gesture between the two features on the obverse of each option. For those looking to collect all of the silver for sale in this new series, the designs come in three different options. Each design features on a 1 oz silver round, 2 oz silver round, and 5 oz silver round. The 5 oz round might just be the most unique in the series for two reasons. First and foremost, its low mintage of just 500 rounds is well below the 2,500 of the 2 oz and 25,000 of the 1 oz rounds.
More important from a visual standpoint is the size of the 5 oz round. Unlike other 5 oz silver, this product doesn’t spread the silver mass out over a larger area. All of the silver rounds in this collection have a diameter of 38.61 mm. Since the round isn’t spread out, that means the weight has to go somewhere and it appears in the form of an extremely thick 5 oz silver round with reeded edges.
On the obverse side of 2019 5 oz Germania The Allegories Britannia & Germania Silver Round is the image of the two female personifications. The due stand near to one another as Germania reaches out her hand to the shoulder of Britannia. Both figures have their respective shields at their sides and weapons at rest, with Britannia wearing her Roman helmet with plume and Germania her laurel crown.
The reverse face of the 2019 Germania The Allegories Britannia & Germania Silver Round has a design element shared across all releases in the collection This crowned shield and its symbolism represent more principles and noble values shared by the global community. The checkered pattern in one of the shield’s quadrants reflects wisdom and prudence.
