In 2019, the Scottsdale Mint issued a beautiful 5 oz antique silver coin with images inspired by the famed Terracotta Army. The coins were backed by the Reserve Bank of Fiji and issued with impressive, unique visuals. This included an antique polish and what the mint refers to as a “ruptured” edge to the coin. Each of the coins appears as though it was chiseled out of a block of granite. Right now, the new 2019 5 oz Fiji Terracotta Army Silver Coin is available to purchase online from JM Bullion.

Each of the 2019 5 oz Fiji Terracotta Army Silver Coins ships to you with individual packaging. The coins are housed inside of drawstring pouches with a red stamp on the outside bearing the same Mandarin symbols from the obverse field of the coins. Each individual coin also comes with its own Certificate of Authenticity from the Scottsdale Mint. These coins have an antique polish that creates the appearance of ancient coinage. Additionally, the unique “ruptured” edge gives a rough, rustic finish to each coin.
Discovered by farmers in Lintong County, Shaanxi, China, in 1974, the Terracotta Army is a collection of sculptures featuring the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first man to hold the title Emperor of China for the newly unified nation. A form of funerary art, the Terracotta Army consists of more than 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots pulled by 520 horses, and 150 cavalry horses.
On the obverse field of the 2019 5 oz Fiji Terracotta Army Silver Coin, you will find the image of one of those 8,000 soldiers standing next to a cavalry horse. The coin has no major inscriptions on this side other than four Chinese symbols to accompany the soldier and horse.
The reverse face of the 2019 Fiji Terracotta Army Silver Coin bears the coat of arms for Fiji. The national crest includes a quartered shield with native flora and fauna in each of the quadrants, with a lion in the passant guardant pose at the top. Above the shield is a Polynesian canoe and there are native Fijians supporting the shield from either side.
