The Mexican Mint introduced its Mexican Silver Libertad in 1982 as the silver bullion coin of the nation. It resurrected a design previously used on the circulation gold Centenario, itself issued in 1921 to mark 100 years of independence from Spain for the Mexican people. Today, you will find the Silver Libertad design on a wide range of products. The 2019 5 oz Antique Mexican Silver Libertad Coin is the most recent addition and is now available to you for purchase online from JM Bullion.

The new Antique Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available from the Mexican Mint in three weights. Introduced in 2018, the series includes 1 oz, 2 oz, and 5 oz silver coins. The 1 oz coin had a higher mintage cap at 40,000 coins representing the anticipated demand for the coins once issued. The 2 oz and 5 oz antique silver coins had a much lower figure of just 2,000 per weight.
In the initial release of the Antique Mexican Silver Libertad, the Mexican Mint experienced a total sellout of the new coins. The Antique Silver Libertad joins three other collectible options and the bullion version of the Silver Libertad. The collectible coins include the standard proof coins, the reverse proof weights in 1 oz, 2 oz, and 5 oz, and the 1 Kilo proof-like coins.
On the obverse of 2019 5 oz Antique Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are various depictions of the Mexican coat of arms. As with all other 1 oz and larger coins in the Libertad Series, these 5 oz Antique Silver Libertads center on the modern coat of arms and is surrounded by 10 historical versions of the Mexican coat of arms.
The reverse of 2019 Antique Mexican Silver Libertad Coin includes a depiction of Winged Victory. Her figure now serves as the female personification of Mexico and is inspired by the Ancient Roman goddess of victory, Victoria. She holds a wreath crown in one hand and a set of broken chains in the other. Her likeness is also featured in a 22-foot statue atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City.
These 2019 5 oz Antique Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available with protective plastic capsules and feature an antique polish that creates the appearance of ancient coinage. This year’s mintage has been cut in half to just 1,000 coins in all!
