The Yale of Beaufort is the seventh design in the 10-coin series from the Royal Mint and is the second issue with a 2019 date mark. The Yale of Beaufort comes from Lady Margaret Beaufort, daughter of John Beaufort, Duke of Somerset, and the mother of England’s King Henry VII.
All of the 2019 2 oz British Silver Queen’s Beast Yale of Beaufort Coins available here today earned a near-perfect certification from the NGC. Coins with a Mint State 69 certification showcase full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Acceptable flaws at this grade level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines.
On the reverse of 2019 British Silver Queen’s Beast Yale of Beaufort Coins is a depiction of the shield of Lady Margaret Beaufort. The shield itself bears a portcullis design also present in the modern coat of arms for the Westminster City Council, and is supported by the mythical Yale. This beast is often described as having the body of a goat or antelope, with horns on its head and boar tusks on its snout.
Lady Margaret Beaufort’s badge, the portcullis, was carried by her son King Henry VII. The king was the founder of the House of Tudor, a dynasty that ruled the English throne from his ascension in 1485 until the death of Queen Elizabeth I in 1603.
The obverse of 2019 2 oz British Silver Queen’s Beast Coins includes the fifth-generation portrait of Queen Elizabeth II for British coins. Designed by Jody Clark in 2015, this image captures the Queen at the age of 89 in a right-profile portrait wearing the Royal Diadem crown.
