The South Korean Tiger is one of three major silver bullion collections from KOMSCO, the official mint of the Republic of Korea. The Korean Tiger Series launched in the same year as the Chiwoo Cheonwang Series and offers design elements not found on any other KOMSCO product. Right now, 2019 1 oz Proof South Korean Tiger Silver Medals are available to purchase online from JM Bullion.
Medal Highlights:
Each 2019 1 oz Proof South Korean Tiger Silver Medal in this product listing is part of a very limited release of the second-annual Silver Tiger design from KOMSCO. The coin is packaged securely inside of a presentation box and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
South Korean Tiger bullion medals debuted in 2016 with only gold medals available. 2018 marked the first release of silver medals in the collection, with the design changing from one year to the next on the obverse field of the medals. The focus of the series is the Korean tiger, the regional name for the Siberian tiger species that once called the Korean peninsula home. The last native Korean tiger was believed to have been killed off the southern coast of South Korea in the 1920s.
On the obverse side of 2019 1 oz Proof South Korean Tiger Silver Medals is a depiction of a ferocious tiger with a snarling look on its face. As the tiger roars and exposes its large teeth, one of its paws rips through the design field leaving two major cut lines from its sharp claws. Inscriptions include the name and date of the release, as well as the weight of the silver medal.
The reverse face of 2019 Proof South Korean Tiger Silver Medals comes with the image of the Korean peninsula. This design is common to the Korean Tiger Series in both silver and gold and uses the letters of the Hangul, the Korean alphabet, to form the shape of the Korean peninsula. To the left of the peninsula is a design known as the taeguk. This is the national symbol found on the South Korean flag.
