The Austrian Philharmonic Coin series was introduced as the official bullion coinage of Austria in 1989. The original selection included only the 1 oz and 1/4 oz gold coins, but has since grown to include a total of five gold weights, a silver coin, and a platinum coin. All coins share the same design celebrating the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
Officially founded in 1842, the Vienna Philharmonic is widely regarded as one of the world’s finest orchestras. There is a record of orchestral performances taking place regularly in Vienna as early as the 1830s, but an official orchestra was not formed until the following decade. 1 oz gold coins debuted with face values in Austrian shillings and .999 pure gold, but now feature face values in euros and .9999 pure gold.
The obverse of 2019 1 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin includes the image of the Great Organ. Used in countless performances over the course of time, the Great Organ is a fixture of the Musikverein concert hall in Innere Stadt where the orchestra conducts all of its performances. Engravings on this side of the coin include the nation of issue, weight, metal content, purity, year of issue, and face value.
On the reverse of 2019 Austrian Gold Philharmonics is a selection of popular musical instruments used by the members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Included in the design are nine instruments in all, such as a cello, four violins, a harp, bassoon, flute, and a horn. Engravings on this face include only the nation of issue.
These 2019 1 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Coins are available individually inside of protective plastic and inside of mint tubes of 10 coins.
