The Australian Gold Kangaroo Series is the oldest and longest-running collection of gold for sale from the Perth Mint. The series that set the standard that the Silver Kookaburra, Silver Koala, and Silver Kangaroo would eventually follow, the Australian Gold Kangaroo debuted in 1986 and continues to this day with its 2019 issue. The 2019 1 oz Australian Gold Kangaroo Coin is currently available to purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Australian Gold Kangaroo coins debuted with 1987 date marks as the Australian Gold Nugget. Issued by the Perth Mint in the state of Western Australia, the coins were meant to promote the natural gold reserves found throughout the state of Western Australia. The discovery of gold in this part of Australia powered population by outsiders on the western half of the continent and was a driver of the early economy of the region.
Since 1990, the Australian Gold Kangaroo has featured the iconic national symbol of the nation. The kangaroo species includes four different subspecies, and generally speaking the Western Grey and Red Kangaroo subspecies are represented in the collection in new designs each year. While the 1 oz and three fractional-weight 2019 Australian Gold Kangaroos feature a new design, the 1 Kilo coin retains the popular red kangaroo design used every year in that weight.
On the obverse of 2019 1 oz Australian Gold Kangaroo Coins is the new fifth-generation design of Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait. This bust of the Queen comes from Jody Clark of the Royal Mint of England and depicts more of the Queen’s figure. Rather than just a bust of her head, the design includes the neckline and shoulders of the Queen, with the Victorian coronation necklace around her neck.
The reverse of 2019 Australian Gold Kangaroo coins features a red kangaroo at rest. The trees in the background of the design bend with the sides of the design field and are barren, with no leaves present on the branches. The sun rises into the sky behind the two trees. The series name, year of issue, weight, purity, and metal content feature on this side along with “P” mint marks.
These 2019 1 oz Australian Gold Kangaroo Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Individual coins are available inside of protective plastic capsules or inside of sealed boxes for orders of 100.
