The 2018 introduction of the Antique Mexican Silver Libertad included the debut of three different weights that include 1 oz, 2 oz, and 5 oz silver coins. In that first year, the Mexican Mint made a huge investment in the series by producing 40,000 1 oz coins and 2,000 coins each for the 2 oz and 5 oz options. The Mexican Mint sold all of the coins it produced in this series for the 2018 debut.
All 2019 1 oz Antique Mexican Silver Libertad Coins represent just the second release in the collection. The coins are housed individually inside of protective plastic capsules and come with a beautiful antique finish. That finish creates a visual finish one might expect to see on an ancient coin, not a brand-new one fresh from the mint. This year’s release has a significantly lower overall mintage at just 1,000 coins in total!
On the obverse of 2019 Antique Mexican Silver Libertad Coins, you will find the image of Winged Victory. This particular depiction of Victory is inspired by the Mexican Independence Victory Column that is topped by a 22-foot tall statue of Nike, the Greek name for the goddess of victory. She holds up the crown wreath that is symbolic of the power of self-governance and holds broken chains of servitude in the other hand.
The reverse of 2019 1 oz Antique Mexican Silver Libertad Coins features the design of the Mexican coat of arms. There are, in fact, 11 versions of the coat of arms on this side. In the center, you will find the modern version of the national coat of arms with the Mexican golden eagle battling a serpent. Around it are 10 historical versions that have been used since independence was gained in the 1820s.
