The EC8 program’s 2018 release included four versions of each of the eight designs offered. This included silver bullion, silver proof colorized, gold bullion, and gold colorized options. The Antigua & Barbuda coin from 2018 featured a large ship at sea with barrels of rum stacked on a sandy shoal in the foreground.
On the reverse of 2019 1 oz Antigua & Barbuda Rum Runner Silver coins, you’ll find a new design for the second release of EC8 coins. This year’s design depicts a rum-running ship tied up at port with a few barrels of rum stacked on the docks near the ship. In the foreground, a sailor gazes through his scope to look out on the horizon, perhaps judging the weather or looking for trouble on the waters before departing with his cargo.
The obverse of 2019 Rum Runner Silver Coins includes the fourth-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II that was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley. Her Majesty’s effigy is flanked by large fern leaves and the top rocker of the design field includes the name of the “Eastern Caribbean Central Bank,” the backer of the coin’s face value.
The EC8 Series is so-named because it represents the eight member nations of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. In addition to Antigua & Barbuda, the members are Anguilla, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
