The United States Mint introduced the American Silver Eagles in 1986 with these bullion coins and a proof version available. In 2006, the United States Mint expanded the Silver Eagle series to include an alternate collectible coin in the form of a burnished option. All coins in the Silver Eagle collection are available only in a 1 oz weight.
On the obverse side of 2019 American Silver Eagles is Walking Liberty. This design was created by Adolph A. Weinman and depicts Liberty in left-profile relief. She walks toward the sun on the horizon with her hand outstretched, the American flag draped over her shoulders, and the leaves of oak and laurel in her left hand.
The Walking Liberty design was created by Weinman in 1916. Weinman was a student of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the man who designed what is arguably the greatest Liberty design in American history. Walking Liberty appeared on the US half dollar from 1916 to 1947.
For the reverse of 2019 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coins, the United States Mint uses the modernized version of the heraldic eagle. Modified for the Silver Eagles by John Mercanti, this design includes the nation’s official symbol set behind the US heraldic shield as it clutches an olive branch and arrows.
