The American Platinum Eagle Coin is the official platinum bullion coin of the United States and the only regularly produced platinum coin from the mint. Platinum Eagles debuted in 1997 with four weights in bullion and proof options, but since 2009 have carried on in both versions with just a 1 oz option available. Right now, 2019 1 oz American Platinum Eagles are available to purchase online from JM Bullion in perfect condition.
Coin Highlights:
Each of the 2019 1 oz American Platinum Eagle coins you can purchase here today come with a perfect certification from the NGC. Mint State 70 coins exhibit full, original mint luster and come with no detracting flaws on the surface areas or design elements.
Platinum Eagles have been available in a 1 oz weight since the first issue in 1997, but that doesn’t mean they’ve been available in every subsequent year. From 2009 to 2013, the US Mint issued only the 1 oz Proof Platinum Eagle. The bullion coins were suspended during this period for a number of reasons. Declining mintage figures were one of those reasons.
Since 2016 though, the coins have again been issued annually. The response to the coin’s return in 2016 was positive, showing a robust demand of 20,000 coins produced and sold. That was up from the 16,900 sold in 2014 during a one-year return.
On the obverse of all American Platinum Eagle coins is the image of the Statue of Liberty. This design was created in 1997 by John Mercanti and focuses intently on Liberty’s face. You can see her right arm as it reaches skyward out of view holding up the torch.
The reverse of 2019 1 oz American Platinum Eagles features a design from Thomas D. Rogers. His artwork on this side of the coin includes an American bald eagle gliding over the country with its wings spread wide as the sun crests over the horizon in the distance.
