The Somalia Gold Elephant Series has expanded significantly in the last several years. The biggest single-year expansion the Somalia Elephant Series experienced came in 2016 when the silver series gained fractional-ounce coins, a platinum coin was introduced in a 1 oz weight, and the gold series gained more weights. In 2017, the 1/50 oz and 1/2 Gram Somalia Gold Elephants were introduced.
On the obverse of the 2019 1/50 oz Somalia Gold Elephant Coin is a depiction of the Somali coat of arms. The national emblem comes with a crowned shield that has a background field of horizontal lines. The shield bears a single star in the center with leopards supporting the shield from either side. Fern leaves and spears are crossed below the design and draped with a ribbon.
The reverse face of 2019 1/50 oz Somalia Gold Elephant Coins features the African bush elephant. The largest land mammal alive today, the African bush elephant is shown here in a powerful display with its trunk raised and ears fluffed out.
