When silver surged in 2016, it was the Proof Silver Libertad that benefited from greater demand rather than its bullion counterpart.
All 2019 1/10 oz Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available to you here with protective plastic capsules to house the individual coins. The 1/10 oz Proof Mexican Silver Libertad peaked in the 21st century in 2016 with a mintage of 12,650 and had a mintage of 6,500 coins in 2018. That figure is roughly two-thirds of the entire bullion coinage in the same year.
On the obverse of all 2019 Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins, you’ll find the depiction of Winged Victory. A symbol of Mexico’s resistance to Spanish rule in the 19th century, Victory is based upon depictions of Justice from Ancient Greek and holds a crown wreath in her right hand. Her left hand clutches the broken chains of servitude symbolizing that break and independence.
Winged Victory first appeared on Mexican coinage with the 1921 release of the Gold Centenario. Those coins were issued to mark 100 years of independence and featured an image of Victory no longer used. Her figure was modernized on the Silver and Gold Libertads in the early 2000s.
The reverse side of 2019 1/10 oz Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins includes the coat of arms for Mexico. This seal includes a cactus in the middle on the arm of which an eagle does battle with a serpent. The design is surrounded by “Estados Unidos Mexicanos” above and a wreath below.
All Silver Libertads are produced by the Mexican Mint. Founded in 1535, today the Mexican Mint is the sovereign minting facility of the Mexican government and backed by Banco de Mexico.
