Burnished American Silver Eagle coins are a unique addition to the Silver Eagle series that arrived in 2006 as the US Mint celebrated the program’s 20th anniversary. Issued every year since, except for 2009 and 2010, the Burnished American Silver Eagle is a beautiful specimen that adds variety to any collection. Today, 2018-W 1 oz Burnished American Silver Eagle Coins are available to you online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The Burnished American Silver Eagle coin has the lowest mintage figures in the Silver Eagle Collection, which also features bullion and proof options. The burnished coin is similar to the bullion version of the Silver Eagle, with greater visual brilliance as a result of the special burnishing process.
The United States Mint polishes the blanks before coining by tumbling them in drums with a polishing medium. Typically, steel balls are used as the polishing medium, though sand has been used to burnish other types of coins. The result is a coin with a matte appearance and less shine than bullion versions.
All of the 2018-W 1 oz Burnished American Silver Eagle Coins available here are housed inside of capsules and shipped in United States Mint commemorative boxes. Each coin comes with its own Certificate of Authenticity from the US Mint as well.
On the obverse of the Burnished American Silver Eagle Coin is the image of Walking Liberty. Designed in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this design won an art competition held by the US Mint and Treasury Department as part of a wider movement in the era to redesign all American circulation coins. Walking Liberty originally appeared on the half dollar from 1916 to 1947.
The reverse side of all 2018-W 1 oz Burnished American Silver Eagle Coins features the heraldic eagle of the United States. Refined for the Silver Eagle in 1986 by John Mercanti, the heraldic eagle is one of America’s oldest coin designs and dates back to 1794 and the very first US coins issued by the fledgling nation.
All Burnished American Silver Eagles are struck by the US Mint at its West Point Mint facility in New York. There is a “W” mint mark visible on the coin’s reverse below the olive branch that the eagle clutches in its talons.
