When the Burnished American Gold Eagle Coin was introduced in 2006, the US Mint expanded its Gold Eagle Series with the debut of this additional numismatic coin. While the traditional Proof Gold Eagle has frosted designs and mirrored fields, Burnished Gold Eagles were designed with a different purpose in mind. Today, 2018-W 1 oz Burnished American Gold Eagle Coins are available online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Burnished Gold Eagle start out the same way BU and Proof Gold Eagles do, as plain gold blanks. However, before being loaded into coin presses at the US Mint, the blanks are tumbled in drums with a burnishing medium that creates a distinctive, matte finish on the cons.
All 2018-W 1 oz Burnished American Gold Eagle Coins are available with US Mint packaging. This packaging includes a capsule for the coin, a presentation box, and a Certificate of Authenticity. The 2018 coin enjoyed a nice boost in demand from 2017, with demand rising nearly 3,000 coins year-over-year.
On the obverse of 2018-W Burnished American Gold Eagles, you’ll find the front-facing effigy of Liberty from Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Created in 1907, this full-length depiction shows Liberty walking away from the U.S. Capitol Building with a torch in one hand, an olive branch in the other, and rays of sunshine behind her figure.
The reverse field of the 2018-W 1 oz Burnished Gold Eagle Coin comes with a depiction of American bald eagles. Designed in 1986 by Miley Busiek, this image is exclusive to the coins of the Gold Eagle Series and showcases a male eagle soaring above a nest with a female eagle and hatchling within.
