Often the coin with the lowest mintage in the American Gold Eagle Series, the ¼ oz Gold Eagle is popular among collectors in the proof series because of its low mintage and the beautiful design found on all the coins in the US Mint’s official gold bullion series. Today, 2018-W ¼ oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins are available to you online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
When the American Gold Eagle Series debuted in 1986, the United States Mint offered the bullion version of the coin in 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, and 1/10 oz weights right out of the gate. For the Proof American Gold Eagle though, fractional-weight coins were phased in over the first three years. The 1986 issue featured only a 1 oz gold coin.
Starting in 1987, the US Mint struck the Proof Gold Eagle in the ½ oz weight to complement the 1 oz coin. Then, in 1988 the US Mint introduced these ¼ oz Proof Gold Eagles alongside the 1/10 oz coin to bring the proof series on equal footing with the bullion coins. While four weights are common in both today, the Proof American Gold Eagle maintains much lower mintage figures.
All 2018-W ¼ oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins here are in perfect condition. The NGC certifies a proof coin as PF70 when it features full, original mint luster and lacks detracting flaws of any kind.
The UCAM designation is for proof coins with strong, frosted matte elements to the design set and a deeply-mirrored, clear background field. The Early Release label included in your coin slab denotes the arrival of the coins for certification. Each one was received by the NGC or an approved third-party depository within 30 days of the US Mint’s initial 2018 release date for these coins.
On the obverse of all ¼ oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins you’ll find the image of Liberty. Created in 1907 by Saint-Gaudens, it features Liberty as she strides forward from Washington DC. The US Capitol Building is visible at her feet and she serves as a guiding light for the nation as it marches toward the future.
The reverse of the 2018 Proof American Gold Eagle bears the bald eagle family from Miley Busiek. In the design, a male eagle flies over the nest with hatchlings inside under the watchful eye of the female eagle.
