For all the changes the Chinese Gold Panda Coin has undergone in more than 30 years of availability, one thing has remained a constant in this collection: the reverse design. The Temple of Heaven has featured on the reverse of the gold coin since it was first introduced in 1982 and continues to this day with no change.
The Temple of Heaven is part of a larger imperial complex of religious buildings build in the southeastern section of central Beijing. Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties visited the temple of annual ceremonies to pray to the Heaven for a good harvest. Regarded as a Taoist temple, also used for Chinese heaven worship, the complex was later extended to include a Temple of Sun, Temple of Earth, and Temple of Moon.
On the reverse of the 2018 8 Gram Chinese Gold Panda Coin is the outer façade of the Temple of Heaven. The building featured is actually the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the largest building in the Temple of Heaven complex.
The obverse of all Chinese Gold Panda Coins features a new image of the Giant Panda. This black-and-white species of bear is native the highlands of China’s south-central mountain ranges. Included on this face are engravings of the face value, weight, purity, and metal content of the coin.
Each 2018 8 Gram Chinese Gold Panda Coin in this listing has BU condition. Coins in BU condition have no signs of wear and tear, but do possess possible minor flaws resulting from striking blanks at the mint during production. These flaws are limited to breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks.
The Chinese Mint produces all Chinese Panda bullion coins. These 8 Gram coins are issued in this weight for the third year in 2018, replacing the former ¼ oz coin issued from 1982-2015.
