The Chinese Silver Panda coin debuted from the Chinese Mint in 1983. From 1983 to 1988, the coins were only offered as a proof specimen, with no coins struck in 1986 at all. Since 1989, the bullion version of the Silver Panda has been available every year. Only in 2002 did the Chinese Mint repeat designs, offering something new visually each year on the Chinese Silver Panda.
In a curious twist, the Chinese Silver Panda and Chinese Gold Panda have one unique distinction setting them apart. The image of the Giant Panda is referred to as the obverse on the Gold Panda, but the reverse side of the Silver Panda. Regardless of this minor distinction, the coins have the same design fields each year, with both getting new panda designs with each release.
The 2018 30 Gram Chinese Silver Panda Coin offered here today is in perfect condition from the NGC. The coins earned a Mint State 70 grade indicating the presence of its full, original mint luster and a complete lack of detracting flaws on either of the coins sides.
On the obverse of the 2018 Chinese Silver Panda is the familiar site of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. Part of a larger complex of religious buildings, this site is located within the Temple of Heaven complex in south-central Beijing.
The reverse of all 2018 30 Gram Chinese Silver Panda coins features the latest design of the Chinese Silver Panda. This panda design focuses intently on the head of a Giant Panda as it enjoys a snack of bamboo. Roughly 99% of a pandas diet consists of herbs, roots, and other greens.
