The Mexican Mint introduced its Reverse Proof Silver Libertads in 2017. The addition of a reverse-proof option expanded the series beyond its original BU coin for investors and a standard proof coin for collectors. The release of these coins was limited to three of the eight weights in the collection. Now, 2018 2 oz Reverse Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available for purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Mexican Silver Libertads debuted in 1982 in the BU Series and 1983 in the Proof Series. In both cases, the first coins available were the 1 oz silver coins. The addition of more weights came in the 1990s, with fractional-ounce coins introduced first, followed later in the decade by 2 oz and 5 oz coins.
Within the Proof Series, 2 oz and 5 oz coins were issued for the first time in 1996. In 2017, the Mexican Mint introduced a reverse-proof version in 1 oz, 2 oz, and 5 oz silver, followed by an antique finish in those same three weights that was offered only in 2018 and 2019.
On the obverse of 2018 2 oz Reverse Proof Silver Libertads, you will find the modern Mexican coat of arms surrounded by 10 different versions of the seal. The central design is the modern coat of arms, with 10 historic versions around it that include the 1524 design from the Codex Mendoza at the top of the field.
The reverse side of the 2018 Reverse Proof Mexican Silver Libertad comes with the image of Winged Victory. Her figure is shown here as she appears at the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column.
