On the reverse of 2018 2 oz British Silver Unicorn Coins is the Unicorn of Scotland design. Created by Jody Clark, it depicts a powerful unicorn standing behind the shield of Scotland with a crown around its neck and chain that connects it to the shield. The shield design is that of Scotland, featuring a single rampant lion.
The shield featured on these coins is that of King Alexander III, King of Scots from 1249 until his death in 1286. He chose this shield during his 13th-century reign and it has remained unchanged since that time.
For the obverse of 2018 British Silver Queen’s Beast Coins, the Royal Mint uses the fifth-generation portrait of Queen Elizabeth II from Jody Clark. Created in 2015, it depicts Her Majesty in right-profile relief at the age of 89.
