2018 has seen further growth in the variety of medals available to go along with a third new design in the collection. The 2018 issue series includes a new 2 oz incuse struck Chiwoo Cheonwang silver medal and this new 10 oz Silver Chiwoo Cheonwang medal. At just 500 medals available in all, the 10 oz medal has the lowest mintage in the series.
On the obverse of all 2018 10 oz South Korean Silver Chiwoo Cheonwang Medals is the image of Do ggae bi on the shield of Chiwoo Cheonwang. This is the symbolism featured on his shield as he rode into battle. Do ggae bi was known as a grotesque creature with the ability to ward off evil spirits. Ancient Korean and Chinese people would hang his likeness from their homes to ward off evil spirits from the property.
The reverse side of 2018 South Korean Silver Chiwoo Cheonwang Medals includes the newest design of the God of War himself. Chiwoo is depicted in this year’s design riding his horse in battle as he levels his sword to cut down any enemy in his path.
