Tales of the famed Red Dragon of Wales are first chronicled in Welsh culture during the 6th century AD. Europeans, in general, feared dragons as frightening and destructive animals, but they were simultaneously viewed as wise and powerful beasts. As a symbol of strength, they were popular with ruling monarchs. The 2018 10 oz British Silver Queen’s Beast Dragon Coin is currently available to you for purchase online from JM Bullion in perfect condition!
Coin Highlights:
The first appearance of the Red Dragon in the royal arms of England came during the reign of King Henry VII. The son of Owen Tudor, founder of the House of Tudor in the British monarchy, Henry VII secured the crown of England on the field of battle. His troops marched into the Battle of Bosworth with a red dragon on their battle standard.
Later uses of the Red Dragon by Henry VII came in the Royal Navy. The House of Tudor’s colors were green and white. The Royal Navy ships of Henry VII used a red dragon on a field of green and white. During the modern-day reign of Queen Elizabeth II, the Red Dragon of Wales was placed on the national flag in 1959 by decree of the queen. The Welsh flag reflects Owen Tudor’s connection to Welsh heritage with a green and white field behind a red dragon.
On the obverse of all 2018 British Silver Queen’s Beast Dragon coins is the fifth-generation design of Queen Elizabeth II’s bust. Her Majesty’s right-profile portrait seen here was created in 2015 by Jody Clark, the youngest Royal Mint Engraver to complete a monarch’s design.
The reverse of the 2018 10 oz British Silver Queen’s Beast Dragon Coin includes the classic depiction of the Red Dragon of Wales. It is based upon the Queen’s Beast choice of a red dragon with a yellow underbelly. It holds a quartered shield in the royal arms of Llewelyn ap Griffith who featured red-and-gold leopards in each of the quadrants on his royal arms.
These 2018 10 oz British Silver Dragon Coins are available in perfect condition. The Mint State 70 certification indicates coins with full, original mint luster and a complete lack of detracting flaws on the surface areas of the coin.
