The South Korean Tiger Coin series was introduced by KOMSCO in 2016 and features both silver and gold coins. The 2018 design features a massive, beautiful tiger on the prowl with bamboo trees visible on the left-hand side of the design field. The 2018 1 oz South Korean Gold Tiger Coin is currently available to you for purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The coins of 2018 South Korean Gold Tiger release have much lower mintage figures than their silver counterparts. Both coins are available annually with stunning designs of the Siberian tiger, a species formerly found across large swaths of the Asian continent. There have been no sightings of tigers in the wild in South Korea since 1922. Further estimates suggest only 400 Siberian tigers remain alive in the Far Eastern reaches of Russia.
The last tigers were reportedly hunted and killed on Mount Daeduk in Gyeongju in 1922. Historically it is believed that Siberian and/or Amur Tigers lived anywhere from Far Eastern Russia down through China and onto the Korean Peninsula. This series honors the history of the tiger in Korea.
On the obverse side of 2018 1 oz South Korean Gold Tiger Coins, you’ll find the image of the King of the Jungle as it prowls through the bamboo bushes in search of its prey. The Siberian species of tigers are the largest in the world, with historical data from the mid-19th century pointing to kills of Siberian tigers that weighed upwards of 660 lbs with a body length of 130 inches and tail of 39 inches in length.
The reverse face of 2018 South Korean Gold Tigers includes an artistic rendition featured on all coins in the Korean Tiger Series. In a nod to a singular Korean culture, the design includes Korean linguistic characters arranged in the shape of the entire Korean Peninsula with no demarcation lines between the North and South.
These 2018 1 oz South Korean Gold Tiger Coins are available to you with an individual capsule for the coin, a black-velvet lined box, and KOMSCO black display box to house the coin. Your purchase also includes a Certificate of Authenticity with all coins in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
