The Somalia Silver Elephant has become one of the unquestioned leaders in the silver precious metals market. Each year these coins are released with yet another stunning new design, and have expanded in variety to include coin sizes in fractional weights and greater than 1 oz of silver as well. Coin Highlights:
Recent years have seen many changes occur in the Somalia Silver Elephant. None of these changes were to curtail the program, but rather to capitalize on its popularity and expand interest. The series has seen silver content increase from the original .999 to .9999 pure silver, and more recently seen the silver version gain fractional weights for the first time in program history.
Each 2018 1 oz Somalia Silver Elephant Coin in this listing is in BU condition. Coins in this condition show no signs of wear and tear, though you may notice a variety of minor flaws in the visual appeal. These minor issues range from breaks in the luster or spotted surfaces to contact marks from production at the mint.
The obverse of the new 2018 1 oz Somalia Silver Elephant Coin includes the image of an adult elephant as it reaches high into the trees with its trunk. The elephant’s trunk almost appears to come out of the coin’s surface at you, reaching toward the rim of the coin. Vegetation is visible in the background, with two birds flying high overhead.
On the obverse of all Somalia Silver Elephant Coins is the image of the coat of arms for Somalia. This design includes a central shield with a singular star in the center and a crown on the top, with leopards fixed on either side holding the shield up. The coin’s nation of issue, year of issue, and face value are listed around the rim of the design field.
The Bavarian State Mint is the production home of the Somalia Silver Elephant. Striking the coins since 1999 when they were introduced as the Zambian Elephant, the Bavarian State Mint is a state-owned facility in Munich.
