One of the newest lunar-themed coin programs in the precious metals market is the Rwandan Lunar Ounce release from BH Mayer Mint of Germany. The coins debuted in 2017 with the Year of the Rooster, and are set with a second-ever release in the collection for 2018 and the Year of the Dog. The 2018 1 oz Rwandan Silver Lunar Dog Coin is available to you now online for purchase from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The Year of the Rooster was the launch design for the new Rwandan Lunar Ounce program. Like others of the genre, the mint plans to release these coins in a 12-year cycle covering all of the animals in the Chinese Zodiac. The Zodiac follows a 12-year calendar that includes a new animal to cover each of the birth years in the cycle.
Although new, the Rwandan Lunar Ounce collection is already attracting great interest from investors and collectors alike. Though the coins have a separate proof release, even the bullion coin is great for collectors because each new release in the series has a different obverse design. The 2018 1 oz Rwandan Silver Lunar Dog Coin covers those born in the years of 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, and now 2018.
On the obverse of the 2018 1 oz Rwandan Silver Lunar Dog Coin you’ll find the stylized Year of the Dog design. It does not depict any particular dog breed like some other releases, but instead focuses on providing an all-around attractive design with its tiled, or “shattered glass,” look for the background field. Engravings include the Chinese character for dog, along with the coin’s weight, purity, and metal content.
The reverse of the Rwandan Silver Lunar Dog Coin features the official seal of Rwanda. This image includes a variety of engravings, such as the national motto and the name of the Central Bank of Rwanda, in a local Rwandan dialect. The coin’s face value is also engraved on this side.
All 2018 1 oz Rwandan Silver Lunar Dog coins are in BU condition. Coins in BU condition show no signs of wear and tear. Flaws are minimal and result from the striking of blanks at the mint. Possible flaws include breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks.

"This is a beautiful coin. The design is amazing with the tiled format. It comes sealed in plastic, but it does not affect your view of the coin. I am looking forward to the rest of the series."
