After releasing a series of silver and gold bullion coins in the new Queen’s Beast range, the Royal Mint began an aggressive expansion of the design series into a third precious metal option. The Platinum Queen’s Beast Coins expanded where the silver and gold coins started, with the Lion of England. Now the famed Griffin is up next! Right now, 2018 1 oz British Platinum Queen’s Beast Griffin Coins are available to purchase online from JM Bullion.

Each 2018 1 oz British Platinum Queen’s Beast Griffin Coin listed here is in Mint State 69 condition. Coins with this certification are considered near-perfect by the NGC, possessing full, original mint luster with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. These flaws are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines found outside the primary focal areas.
The Early Release designation indicates the timing in which the platinum coins were received for grading. In order to qualify for the ER label, coins must arrive at the NGC or an approved third-party depository within the first 30 days of their release date as set by the Royal Mint.
2018 British Platinum Queen’s Beast Griffin Coins are the 2nd to feature in the platinum range, and the first in the platinum offering to feature the Royal Mint’s new guilloche design in the background of the obverse field. The guilloche design elements are a decorative pattern with very precise, intricate, and repetitive patterns resembling a braid or interlaced ribbons that are mechanically engraved.
On the obverse of the British Platinum Queen’s Beast Griffin Coin is the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is captured in a fifth-generation portrait on these coins, which was created in 2015 by Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark.
The reverse of the 2018 1 oz British Platinum Queen’s Beast Griffin Coin includes the Griffin of King Edward III. The Griffin is a mythical beast said to be the King of Beasts because it has the body of a lion with the head and wings of an eagle. Edward III used the Griffin as his official symbol during a 50-year reign that saw the Kingdom of England become one of Europe’s greatest military powers.
