A Royal Mint engraver, Clark became the youngest mint engraver to develop a portrait of the monarch in 2015 when he designed the latest, fifth-generation portrait of Queen Elizabeth II for British coinage.
Clark is also responsible for the design of the reverse images in the 10-coin series. He is creating the heraldic beasts based upon the original statues which graced Westminster Abbey’s doorways as the Queen arrived for her coronation ceremony in 1953. Those heraldic beasts are among the most important in British history and came to the Royal Arms through various leaders.
On the obverse of the 2018 1 oz British Queen’s Beast Dragon Coin is Clark’s fifth-generation portrait of Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is captured in right-profile relief in the design, which reflects her at the age of 89. Elizabeth II broke British monarch records in recent years to earn the title of the longest-reigning monarch in the nation’s history.
The reverse of the British Queen’s Beast Dragon Coins features another of Clark’s works. In this design we find the Red Dragon of Wales along with the shield and Royal Arms of Llewelyn ap Griffith, the last native prince of Wales. The design includes the red dragon standing rampant, with its claws on the shield of Griffith, which is quartered with four leopards.
All of the 2018 1 oz British Platinum Queen’s Beast Dragon Coins issued here are in perfect condition according to the NGC. Coins that earn Mint State 70 certifications have full, original mint luster and lack all detracting flaws on the surface areas.
