Australia’s longest running silver bullion coin program is the Silver Kookaburra. Introduced in 1990, it was the first coin from the Perth Mint to feature new annual designs on the reverse side featuring a native species. In fact, the Kookaburra proved so popular the Australian Gold Nugget was transitioned to the Australian Gold Kangaroo to follow suit. Today, the 2018 1 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin is available to you online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
While it’s not an anniversary release for the Australian Silver Kookaburra, there is a monumental release available this year to those buying silver from this program. Available since 1990, this is the first time the Silver Kookaburra coin has been struck in .9999 pure silver, following the lead of the mint’s new Australian Silver Kangaroo coin which debuted in 2016.
Each 2018 1 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin in this listing is in BU condition. Coins in this condition have no signs of wear and tear, but they are not free of flaws. Minor issues stemming from production at the Perth Mint include breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, and contact marks.
The obverse of the Australian Silver Kookaburra features the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is always featured on the obverse of Australian coinage with her portrait updated throughout her reign to depict her current age. This is the fourth-generation depiction of the Queen to feature on coinage and was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley.
On the reverse of the 2018 1 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin you’ll find the latest kookaburra design in the series. The largest member of the kingfisher species of birds, the kookaburra on this coin is depicted taking flight with a moonlit sky behind its figure.
The 2018 Silver Kookaburra is available in 1 oz, 10 oz, and 1 Kilo weights, but only these 1 oz silver coins have a limited mintage figure. With 500,000 coins available, you can get your 2018 Silver Kookaburra in an individual plastic capsule, sealed rolls of 20 coins, or sealed boxes of 100 coins contained within 5 rolls with 20 coins each.

"I will be the first to admit the Kookaburra is not the most attractive bird in the world. But anyone that has ever watched "Jungle" movies has heard the distinctive call of the Kookaburra and that includes many of the movies that were set in geographical areas that the bird does not have a habitat! It is an unusual bird for sure and that is one of the reasons it is so wide spread in these movies. It is very unique to say the least. The Perth Mint (as usual) has done an exceptional job at minting this coin. I have been following this series for years and I can only say if it is attractive to you, buy! The BU that I have purchased are close to (but not quite at) proof! I have collected several Perth Mint coins and I have to say the quality is excellent. The picture does not do it justice so if you like what you see in the picture, buy and be well pleased we you get the coin."
