The Mint State 69 certification is reserved for coins that exhibit full, original mint luster and feature a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. These minuscule flaws are limited to hairlines or contact marks found only outside the primary focal areas.
The Early Release label is used for coins that meet certain arrival standards at the NGC. Coins must arrive from their mint of origin within the first 30 days of their issue date in order to qualify for the ER label.
Australian Silver Kookaburra coins set the stage for the Perth Mint’s use of native animal species on the reverse of its coinage. More importantly, the Silver Kookaburra was the first to use rotating annual designs to add collectible value to traditional silver bullion coins.

The reverse of the 2018 1 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin features its own unique design of the kookaburra. A species of kingfisher, the kookaburra is notable for being one of the few subspecies of kingfisher not associated with our even typically found near large bodies of water. In fact, very few kookaburras are found along Australia’s coasts.
All Australian Silver Kookaburra coins originate at the Perth Mint. Australia’s oldest operating mint, the Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the final Royal Mint location on the continent and today is owned by the state government of Western Australia.
