In 1990, the Perth Mint started a tradition of coining modern silver bullion coins that display the images of the species that make Australia unique. This started with the Silver Kookaburra coin program. The well-known mint has since created the Silver Koala coin program, debuting in 2007, and the Silver Kangaroo Series, starting in 2016. The Silver Emu collection is the next series from the Perth Mint as it started in 2018 with this issue.
Each 2018 1 oz Australian Silver Emu Coin will arrive in a protective plastic slab from the NGC. These coins have been given a grade of MS70, meaning they’re flawless specimens. These coins have their full, original mint luster with no detractions of any kind.
The obverse field of the 2018 Australian Silver Emu Coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This depiction was created by Ian Rank-Broadley and is the fourth-generation depiction shown on British coinage. The Queen is in right-profile relief as identifying marks of the coin surround her image.
