The United States Mint introduced the American Silver Eagle coin series in 1986. Originally offered in bullion and proof versions with a 1 oz silver content, these coins have since expanded to include a burnished version of the coin as of 2006. Today, the American Silver Eagle is the world’s most popular silver bullion coin by sales volume. The 2018 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coin is available to you online now for purchase from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
American Silver Eagle coins are the most popular coins by sales figures in the world. The highest mintage figure in the series came in 2015 when the US Mint sold 47 million Silver Eagle coins. That sales success came on the back of the records that were broken in 2013 and 2014 as well.
The Silver Eagle coins feature designs taken from American coining history. On one side is the Walking Liberty depiction created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, while the other side of the coin includes a modern take on the heraldic eagle from John Mercanti. The original heraldic eagle of the US appeared on the first coins from the Philadelphia Mint in 1794.
On the obverse of the 2018 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coin is the image of Walking Liberty. This design first appeared on the nation’s 50-cent piece from 1916 to 1947, and was created by Weinman in 1916 following a competition among artists as the United States Mint to develop new coin designs to bring American coinage into the 20th century.
The reverse of the American Silver Eagle Coin features the heraldic eagle. The modern depiction included here was refined in 1986 by John Mercanti, a former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint who retired from the position in 2010. Mercanti’s heraldic eagle sits behind the national shield with arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. There are 13 stars above its head as well to represent the original colonies.
All 2018 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coins listed here today are in perfect condition according to the PCGS. Coins with a Mint State 70 grade from the PCGS show full, original mint luster and lack any detracting flaws on the surface areas of the coin.
