American Silver Eagle coins debuted from the United States Mint in 1986 with a bullion and proof version of the coin available. While the Gold Eagle version has various weights, the Silver Eagles are available only as 1 oz silver products. The American Silver Eagle is now, as of 2006, also available in a second collectible version known as the burnished (uncirculated) Silver Eagle.
Each 2018 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coin in this listing is in Mint State 69 condition. Known as near-perfect coins by the NGC, these Silver Eagles have full, original mint luster along with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. These detracting flaws are limited in scope to minuscule hairlines or contact marks found only outside the primary focal areas of the coin.
The obverse of all American Silver Eagle coins features the image of Walking Liberty. Designed by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916, it featured on the half-dollar until 1947 when it was replaced by the effigy of Founding Father Benjamin Franklin. Walking Liberty features Lady Liberty as she strides across the American countryside.
She carries in her left hand the oak leaves of civic success and the olive branches of peace, while her right hand is outstretched toward the setting sun she chases. This design, which includes the American flag draped over her shoulders, is indicative of the nation’s desire for a brighter future ahead.
On the reverse of all 2018 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coins is John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle depiction. First used in 1794 at the Philadelphia Mint, this depiction of the heraldic eagle is the most advanced in American coinage. It depicts the eagle behind the nation’s heraldic shield, with arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. There are also 13 stars above its head in triangle to represent the original colonies.
