American Gold Eagle coins were introduced in 1986 by the United States Mint along with their silver counterparts. The coin series is the most popular offering from the US Mint each year, generating millions of Troy ounces in sales of precious metals. The coins are now available in silver, gold, platinum, and palladium.
The Gold Eagle is available in weights that include 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, and 1/10 oz. This offering is available in the bullion and proof versions of the coin, with the burnished version of the Gold Eagle available only in the 1 oz gold weight.
All 2018 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coins in this listing are available in perfect condition according to the PCGS. Coins with a Mint State 70 grade feature full, original mint luster and a complete lack of detracting flaws.
First Strike coins must arrive at the PCGS for grading within a set timeframe in order to qualify for the designation. As a First Strike, or FS, coin these products arrived at the PCGS or an approved third-party depository within the first 30 days of the 2018 release date set by the United States Mint.
On the obverse of the American Gold Eagle coin you’ll find the image of Liberty created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Routinely referred to as the greatest American coin design of all time, this image was originally meant to feature in high-relief, but the US Mint lacked the ability when it appeared on the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933.
The reverse of the 2018 1 oz American Gold Eagle coin features the image of a family of nesting bald eagles. Created by Miley Busiek in 1986 specifically for this series, it features a bald eagle flying over the family nest where another adult eagle watches over the group of hatchlings.
