The American Eagle Series of coins from the United States Mint all have common features that are shared across the program. Specifically, the coins share a common design theme of Liberty on one side and the American bald eagle on the reverse. Each coin, however, has a different depiction of Liberty and the bald eagle.
Gold Eagle mintage has ebbed and flowed over the course of its three decades in production. The coins were originally in high demand, but experienced a slump in demand throughout the 1990s until the onset of the Y2K crisis. Other jumps in mintage have included anniversary years and the years of the Great Recession.
On the obverse of the 2018 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coin is Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ depiction of Liberty. This image featured on the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933, and featured Liberty walking forth from the nation’s capital of Washington DC.
The reverse of American Gold Eagle coins include a unique design found only on the Gold Eagles. Created by Miley Busiek in 1986, it features a male bald eagle returning to the family nest with an olive branch. In the nest are a group of hatchlings under the watchful eye of a female bald eagle.
Your 2018 1 oz American Gold Eagle listed here is in near-perfect condition according to the PCGS. Coins with an MS69 grade show full, original mint luster, but also feature a maximum of two minor detracting flaws such as minuscule hairlines and contact marks. As a First Strike coin, these Gold Eagles arrived at the PCGS for grading within the first 30 days of the 2018 release date for Gold Eagles.
