American Gold Eagle coins feature one of the most iconic designs in American coining history. Augustus Saint-Gaudens was recruited to help lead a revolution in the design of American coins, with the image of Liberty featured here on the Gold Eagle representing the results of his work.
On the obverse of 2018 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coins is the design of Liberty from Saint-Gaudens. Originally used on the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933, this design depicted Lady Liberty walking forward from the nation’s capital with a torch held high in her right hand, and her robe and hair flowing in the breeze.
The reverse of all Gold Eagle coins from the United States Mint features a design created specifically for the program in 1986. Miley Busiek, a private artist with countless designs for both public display and private works, created the image of one adult eagle flying over a nest containing hatchlings under the watchful eye of another bald eagle.
American Gold Eagle coins are produced by the United States Mint, with the West Point Mint facility handling the vast majority of coin production today.
