Together with the oz gold coin, the oz American Gold Eagle represents part of the lowest mintage range of the Gold Eagle bullion series. The 1 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins are massively popular each year, but the oz and oz coins have much lower mintage figures combined with a great price. The 2018 oz American Gold Eagle Coin is available to you today for purchase online from JM Bullion.

Production of the and oz American Gold Eagle coins has always been a mere fraction of the other available weights. In the first year of issue, 1986, the 1 oz coin had a mintage above 1.36 million coins compared to 726,031 for the oz. Even the smaller 1/10 oz coin regularly outpaces the oz coin, with 912,609 struck in 1986.
In recent years, the gap has grown even larger in mintage. While the 1/10 oz coin has surged to become the top coin in the series of four weights, with 980,000 in 2015 and 925,000 in 2016, the oz Gold Eagle has seen much lower figures. For those same two years, 2015 and 2016, oz Gold Eagles had mintage figures of 158,000 and 152,000.
On the obverse of all 2018 oz American Gold Eagle Coins there is an adaptation of Augustus Saint-Gaudens classic Liberty image. First used on the $20 Gold Double Eagle in 1907, the design originally had just 46 stars marking the number of states in the Union at the time. This design has all 50 stars and crisper visuals of Libertys figure walking forward with the suns rays at her back.
The reverse of all American Gold Eagle Coins includes a design from Miley Busiek. Created in 1986 specifically for the Gold Eagle collection, it depicts an eagle flying back to the nest with an olive branch. In the nest, a group of hatchlings waits under the watchful eye of another adult eagle.
All 2018 oz American Gold Eagles offered to you today are in BU condition. Coins in this condition show no signs of wear and tear, however, flaws resulting from the striking of blanks are possible. These range from breaks in the luster and spotted surfaces to contact marks.
