Founded in 1842, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra actually dates back a decade earlier than that point. Although the modern orchestra has performed regularly since that time, there were prior performances by an orchestra in Vienna that were conducted on an ad hoc basis. This meant there was no set schedule nor guarantee the same performers would appear each time.
The Austrian Gold Philharmonic coin program launched in 1989 from the Austrian Mint with a 1 oz and ¼ oz gold coin for sale. In 1991, a 1/10 oz coin was added. That was followed by a ½ oz coin in 1994 and these 1/25 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coins in 2014. The coin series expanded to other precious metals with the Austrian Silver Philharmonic in 2008 and the Austrian Platinum Philharmonic in 2016.
All 2018 1/25 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coins in this listing are available in BU condition. Coins in this condition have no signs of wear and tear, but may feature minor production flaws. These flaws are limited to breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, and contact marks.
On the obverse of Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coins you’ll find the Musikverein Pipe Organ. Found inside the Golden Music Hall, it is a centerpiece of performances by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
The reverse of the 2018 1/25 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin includes a collection of nine different musical instruments. Used by members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra on a regular basis, this design is centered on a cello which is flanked by four violins and backed with a Vienna horn, bassoon, and harp.
Austrian Gold Philharmonic coins are produced at the Austrian Mint, the official sovereign mint of the Republic of Austria. The coins are the only European bullion coins with a face value in Euros.

“I ordered two of these coins. They are super tiny and make 1/10th oz gold coins look big. I primarily stay away from gold coins that are not made by the US, but I couldn’t pass up on this beautiful coin. The detail is quite sharp. All in all, great product, great price, and will look nice on my night stand next to my 1 oz gold eagles.”
