Mexican Libertad coins from the Mexican Mint have a long history that dates back to 1982, but not all of the versions and metals in this series have the same background. The Mexican Gold Libertad made its debut in 1981 as a gold bullion specimen and was first offered in 1983 in proof. However, it wasn’t until 2005 that the proof version became a stable annual issue. Right now, 2018 1/10 oz Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coins are available to purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2018 1/10 oz Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coin in this product listing is available to you for purchase inside of an individual plastic capsule. These coins feature proof visuals that include frosted design elements and mirrored fields.
The Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coins took a long time to settle in as an annual-issue coin from the Mexican Mint. The 1 oz coin was issued first in 1983. It was six years before another coin was issued, and this time it was a 1/2 oz coin in 1989. The next wasn’t issued until 2004 when the 1/4 oz gold coin was struck. However, starting in 2005 the Mexican Mint issued the 1 oz coin and four fractional-ounce options each year. The only exception since then was 2012.
On the obverse face of the 2018 1/10 oz Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coin is the image of Winged Victory in the foreground with two mountain peaks visible in the distance. Winged Victory is the symbol of independence in Mexico. Her figure, as shown here, is based on the Mexican Independence Victory Column and its 22-foot statue of the Angel of Independence at the top. The mountains in the background are the volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl.
The reverse side of 2018 1/10 oz Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coins includes the depiction of the modern coat of arms for Mexico. This symbol includes a Mexican golden eagle on a cactus arm with a serpent in its beak and talons that it is battling with. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include only the name of the nation in Spanish. There is also a wreath below the national coat of arms.
