Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins now feature a total of six weights available as of 2014. In addition to the 1 oz gold coin available since 1979, you’ll now find a ½ oz, ¼ oz, 1/10 oz, 1/20 oz, and 1 Gram coin. The 1/10 oz coin was one of two fractional weights introduced in 1982 when the series expanded for the first time. The other fractional weight introduced that year was the ¼ oz coin.
The obverse of all 2018 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins features the same design each year since 2003. This is the fourth-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II created by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt. The Queen is featured in right-profile relief. Her figure has appeared on all Canadian coins since 1952 and is routinely updated to reflect her age.
On the reverse of all 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins you’ll find the sugar maple leaf. This image has featured, with little change, on the reverse since 1979’s introduction of the 1 oz weight. The maple leaf is the official emblem of Canada and appears in red on the national flag. Included on this face are engravings of radial lines, the nation of issue, purity, metal content, and weight of the coin.
The Royal Canadian Mint opened in 1908 with a facility in the federal capital city of Ottawa. Today it includes a second facility in Winnipeg opened in the 1980s.
