The 2017 5 oz Proof British Silver Queen’s Beast Unicorn coin is one of four available weights in the silver proof series. In addition to these 5 oz coins, there are 1 oz, 10 oz, and 1 Kilo options available to collectors. Each coin has a strictly limited mintage, with the 5 oz coin capped at 750 in total and just 500 for individual purchase.
Each 2017 5 oz Proof British Silver Queen’s Beast Unicorn coin ships inside of a Royal Mint box, and has a beautiful proof finish with traditional hallmarks such as frosted devices and a clear, mirrored background field.
On the reverse face of the 2017 5 oz Proof British Silver Queen’s Beast Unicorn Coin you’ll find the majestic Unicorn of Scotland. The beast is featured with a crown around its neck and a long chain flowing from that crown and wrapping around its figure. The beast stands on its hind legs with its front hooves above the Royal Banner of Scotland.
The Unicorn of Scotland was added to the Royal Arms of Great Britain by King James I of England, the man who united the thrones of England and Scotland to form the United Kingdom. The Unicorn’s inclusion with the Lion of England symbolizes the sovereignty of the Queen and is a representation of the unity of the United Kingdom.
On the obverse of all Proof British Silver Queen’s Beast Unicorn Coins you’ll find Queen Elizabeth II’s right-profile portrait. Created in July 2015 by Jody Clark, this fifth-generation depiction is the latest in use on British coinage.
