America’s federal capital city, the District of Columbia is the formal name for the city most know as Washington D.C. The Residence Act of 1790 approved the creation of a capital district located on the Potomac River’s banks on the East Cast of the United States.
As the 2nd coin in the ATB Series’ 2017 release schedule, the 2017 5 oz ATB Frederick Douglass Silver Coin honors the site in Washington D.C. administered by the National Park Service that preserves the home and estate of Frederick Douglass, an abolitionist and prominent African American in 19th century America.
Each of these 2017 5 oz Colorized ATB Frederick Douglass National Historic Site Silver Coins has the beautiful addition of real-life hues and tones to the reverse design field. The former home of Frederick Douglass, and his portrait, come to life on the coin courtesy of colorized enamel added to the coins post-production.
On the reverse of the 2017 5 oz ATB Frederick Douglass National Historic Site Silver Coin is the image of Frederick Douglass sitting at his desk, pencil and paper in hand. The image of his home is located in the background, which is preserved to this day at the National Historic Site in D.C.
The obverse of the ATB Silver Coins from the US Mint features the profile of President George Washington. Just as it appears on the circulation quarter, this left-profile effigy was created in 1932 by John Flanagan.
Each Colorized ATB Frederick Douglass Coin listed here is in BU condition. Coins in BU condition have no signs of wear and tear, though you may notice minor flaws including breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, and contact marks from striking of the blanks by the mint.
The United States Mint does not add colorized finishes to its coins. This work was completed by Emporium Hamburg, a third-party authorized dealer in Hamburg, Germany.
