Each spring there is an explosion of new life in nature. Animals emerge from winter hibernation with young fawns or pups in tow, while the flowers, trees, and plants of the forests erupt into colorful blooms of fresh life. The obverse of all 2017 Silver Celebration of Spring coins includes the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy has appeared on the obverse of all Canadian coinage since she ascended to the throne in 1952. This particular design comes from Canadian artist Susanna Blunt and was created in 2003.
On the reverse of the coin is the beautiful, colorized image of a purple lilac blossom. The flower is captured in various depictions, dominated in the center of the design field by a large bouquet of the flowers. A single branch is featured to the bottom right, while the bottom left has a single head of pedals.
The Royal Canadian Mint is the official sovereign mint of Canada. Founded in 1908, it originally operated just one facility in the federal capital of Ottawa, and now has a second location in the city of Winnipeg.
