The coins feature a laser-engraved maple leaf privy on the reverse and radial lines behind Her Majesty’s bust on the obverse.
The sugar maple leaf is one of North America’s most iconic botanical symbols, particularly renowned for its presence on the Canadian flag. Distinguished by its five-pointed lobes arranged in a palmate structure, the leaf typically spans 3-6 inches across and undergoes a spectacular seasonal transformation.
The obverse of the 2017 Canadian Silver Twin Maples comes with a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief in a 2003 design from Susanna Blunt. Ms. Blunt was only the second Canadian artist to create a monarch portrait for Canadian currency and her depiction of Elizabeth II was the first of Her Majesty’s reign to lack a crown.
On the reverse of 2017 2 oz Silver Twin Maples Coins, you’ll find the image of two sugar maple leaves, tied together by their stems. During summer, the leaf displays a vibrant green color due to abundant chlorophyll production, while in autumn, it reveals breathtaking hues of golden yellow, brilliant orange, and deep crimson as chlorophyll breaks down and other pigments become visible.
