The Perth Mint’s lunar coin programs launched for the first time in 1996 as the Lunar Series program. Featuring designs representing each of the animals in the Zodiac, or Chinese Lunar Calendar, the program included basic designs that became immensely popular with collectors.
When the original series concluded in 2007, the Perth Mint prepared and released a new series of coins starting immediately in 2008 as the Lunar Series II coin program. The original series started with the Year of the Mouse, as did Lunar Series II. Each of the coins in the new program feature intricate designs.
On the reverse of all 2017 2 oz Australian Silver Rooster Coins is the image of a rooster, hen, and several hatchlings in their natural environment. While the rooster is standing tall and proud, the hen and hatchlings are looking for food on the ground. Engravings include the name of the coin release and the Chinese symbol for rooster.
The obverse of all Australian Silver Rooster coins includes the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy has featured on the obverse of all commonwealth coinage since her ascension to the throne of England in 1952. This image was created in 1998 and is the fourth-generation image of the Queen.
Each 2017 2 oz Australian Silver Rooster Coin in this listing has a Brilliant Uncirculated grade. Coins in BU condition feature no signs of wear and tear, but you will notice flaws in the coin’s condition that include breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks.
