Coin Highlights:
On the reverse of the 2017 2 oz Australian Silver Rooster Coin you’ll find the all-new Year of the Rooster design for Lunar Series II coins. Gold coins in the series feature only the rooster, but this silver Year of the Rooster design includes a rooster, one hen, and three chicks in the design field.
The obverse of all Australian Silver Rooster coins bears the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy has appeared on all Australian coins since she ascended to the British throne in 1952 following her father’s death. This fourth-generation depiction of the Queen comes from Ian Rank-Broadley, and was created in 1998.
Each of the 2017 2 oz Australian Silver Rooster Coins in this listing is a perfect specimen according to the NGC. Coins in MS70 condition include full, original mint luster and feature no detracting flaws of any kind on its surface areas.
The Early Release designation is reserved for those coins which arrive at the NGC or an approved third-party depository within a certain time frame. Coins must arrive at the NGC within the first 30 days of the Perth Mint’s release date for 2017 dated coins in order to qualify.
Lunar Series II coins are part of a 12-year cycle following the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Each new release features a design, one for gold and another for silver, that reflects the animal represented on the Zodiac that year.
Perth Mint is a state-owned facility of Western Australia that was formerly part of the British Royal Mint system. Today, it is the oldest operating facility in Australia and exists independent of the sovereign Royal Australian Mint.
