The Lunar Series II program from the Perth Mint isn’t just one of the most coveted in the world, it is also one of the most diverse precious metal programs available today. With gold and silver coins in bullion and proof versions, there are few options with more variety for investors and collectors right now. The 2017 2 oz Australian Gold Rooster Coin is available in BU condition today from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
2017 is the Year of the Rooster on the Chinese Lunar Calendar, and the Perth Mint is celebrating with the 10th release in the Lunar Series II coin program. For 2017, as with other years, there are separate designs for the silver and gold versions of the coin.
The Chinese Lunar Calendar is a 12-year cycle that features a different animal for each of the years. These animals were assigned to the Zodiac by the Jade Emperor, who called a meeting of the world’s animals only to have 12 of them respond. Those born in the Year of the Rooster are sociable and hardworking, while also honest and loyal.
On the reverse of the 2017 2 oz Australian Gold Rooster Coin you’ll find the image of the gold Year of the Rooster design. Unlike the silver version, the gold Year of the Rooster image features a solo rooster, standing on one leg as it looks amongst the foliage of bamboo and flowers for food.
The obverse of the Australian Gold Rooster bears the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy is surrounded by engravings that include her name, the nation of issue, year of issue, face value, and the coin’s weight, purity, and metal content.
All 2017 2 oz Australian Gold Rooster Coins are in BU condition. Coins with this grade have no signs of wear and tear, though you’ll notice minor flaws such as breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks.
Perth Mint is the oldest operating facility in Australia. The mint was opened in 1899 as the third and final facility in the British Royal Mint system of the day. After Australian federation, the Perth Mint served as a defacto sovereign mint for a time along with the Melbourne Mint. The Currency Act of 1965 established the Royal Australian Mint, and gave Perth Mint coins legal tender status.
