The Great Wave off Kanagawa was a color woodblock art piece first created in the 1830s by Hokusai, and depicts the power and might of the ocean. As recent times have shown, Japan is a region of the world prone to the devastation of tsunami waves as a result of massive earthquakes.
On the reverse side of the 2017 1 oz Proof Colorized Fiji Hokusai Great Wave Silver Coin is the colorized image of Hokusai’s artwork, which depicts the massive break of a Great Wave off Kanagawa. Great attention to detail exists on this coin, with colorization adding a deep tone of blue to the wave and crystal-like white caps at its breakpoint. In the background you may notice the figure of Mount Fuji.
The obverse of the coins includes the crest of Fiji, along with engravings of the nation of issue, year of issue, and the coin’s face value in Fijian Dollars.
The Scottsdale Mint is a private facility located in the US state of Arizona. Also known as Scottsdale Silver, the mint strives for green minting processes by recovering much of the silver it uses in bullion production from the photography and manufacturing industries, refining that silver into .999 or greater pure silver.
