As a toy, the kaleidoscope has been around for 200 years now, and the Royal Canadian Mint has put it to use in a 3-coin series celebrating some of Canada’s iconic creatures and symbols. The first in the series was the Polar Bear design, and that was followed by the Loon design. Now the series concludes with the 2017 1 oz Proof Canadian Silver Canadiana Kaleidoscope Maple Leaf coin.
Each of the coins in this series represent the thinnest silver coins ever, with 1 oz coins measuring 60 mm across to give a wider field of view for the full-size of the kaleidoscope design. Translucent colors are used in this expertly crafted coin’s design, with the maple leaves meticulously enhanced with gorgeous shades of natural color.
The obverse of all coins in this collection feature the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty has appeared on all Canadian coinage since she ascended to the throne in 1952, and this most-recent design was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt.
On the reverse of all 2017 1 oz Proof Canadian Silver Kaleidoscope Maple Leaf coins features a design from Calder Moore. Countless maple leaves are featured in a myriad of different sizes and come together in a complex pattern that is simply amazing. The design captures the year-round beauty of the maple leaves, transitioning from green and yellow to predominantly yellow and red.
All coins in this collection ship to you inside of the Royal Canadian Mint’s classic maroon clamshell, for perfect display and protection during shipping. The coins also include individually numbered Certificates of Authenticity.
The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908 to provide the newly independent nation of Canada with coining capacity for its own currency. Originally operating just one location in Ottawa, the federal capital city, a second facility opened in Winnipeg in the 1980s.
