The Royal Canadian Mint is expanding its offering of drusy stone encrusted coins, with a new design that calls to mind the rich greens of a forest canopy at the height of the summer months. In the second release, a brilliant green, crystal-encrusted drusy stone appears on a proof coin. On this reverse of the 2017 1 oz Proof Canadian Silver Brilliant Birch Leaves coin you’ll find a design from Tony Bianco. It includes a cluster of birch leaves, with the one leaf design as mentioned above. Surrounding the leaves is an art-nouveau-inspired frame of curling wood and stylized leaf forms.
The obverse of the Birch Leaves coin includes the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy on these coins was created in 2003 by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt, and includes engravings of Her Majesty’s name and the phrase “D.G. Regina.”
